KIM VIVIERS | OWNER AND INSTRUCTOR |
|
A competitive regional swimmer for Natal in both Swimming and Lifesaving, Kim has loved swimming from the age of 3. Although her swim teaching career only began after she beat Leukaemia in 2009, she has quickly built a substantial resume around the vocation. With swimming courses through Elizabeth Smith and the Ryk Neethling Swim Academy, Kim worked for Ryk Neethling in 2012 teaching all ages but finally heading up the Baby Arena in the Academy. Over the past 6 years, Kim’s focus has been on specialising Baby Swimming. |
“Watching a child become safe in the water is truly the best feeling,” she admits. She believes starting as young as possible and learning through play in a nurturing environment yields the most amazing results. Kim is an outgoing, happy teacher who loves to win the affection of her students through laughter, games and plenty of praise. |
“There are no mistakes only lessons”
|
|
MICHELLE HILLIER | SWIM COACH |
|
Michelle joined Kim in 2016 and has a keen following of enthusiastic little swimmers. She understands the importance of earning a child’s trust and is passionate about getting results. Seeing progress in a child’s water activity is very rewarding for her! Their faith in her only makes her strive harder to ensure her students keep swimming because they love water and feel safe within it. |
Her swimming qualifications were earned through Elizabeth Smith and Swim Dynamics. When not in the water, Michelle is most often with her daughter and loves being around animals. She is an avid fitness enthusiast and walks and runs for the joy of moving while snuggling with a good book or movie is also appealing to her nature. |
“Success starts with believing in yourself”

BIANCA FOURIE | SWIM COACH |
|
Bianca has lived in Champagne Valley, Central Drakensberg for the past 16 years. She comes directly from an adventure experience company facilitating River Rafting and other aquatic activities. For Bianca, swimming is an excellent cardiovascular workout promoting heart and lung health, strength and flexibility, stamina and improves a person’s balance and posture. She has two busy boys and loves keeping fit with them outdoors in nature whether it be in the bush or by the sea. |
Although quieter times reading or gardening bring great enjoyment, it is to the water that Bianca turns for sheer FUN of living. Fitness, Health, Friendships and memories are made in the water for her. She wants to teach as many children as she can to swim simply to keep them SAFE and HEALTHY. “Being able to have an affinity with water is like nothing else I can imagine!” |

Swimming Classes |
|
At Tree of Life Swim School we are keenly aware that children should progress happily and easily in their aquatic skills. We have developed a simple protocol for ‘Grading’ within the school, honouring each child with a special new ‘Cap’ as they become more proficient in the water. |
|
Our swimming lessons have clearly defined goals for children at each development level, allowing parent, |

BABY BONSAI’S (YELLOW) |
|
Our precious introductory group into the wonderful world of WATER! It may feel like ‘Play’, but everything we do with your child is geared to get him a little more comfortable, a little more confident in the water. The kids LOVE their lessons with Auntie Mich and are proud as punch when they do what she asks of them! We get a lump in our throat for each and every one of them! |

BEECH TREES (LIGHT BLUE) |
|
How excited they get when they receive their first ‘new’ cap! Our little Beech Trees progress even further, finding new boundaries in the water including water on the face! See how we introduce the first stroke movements, the very groundwork every swimmer needs to become a strong and agile body in ocean or swimming pool. |

PALM TREES (ROYAL BLUE) |
|
Nothing like Island Style Living for any Kid! Our Little Palm Trees learn to dive for treasures and even the beginnings of a graceful edge dive into water. Over time, those little blue caps become ever more adept in the water, blossoming into the beginning of recognizable Freestyle Swimmers by the end of the grade…. Enough to make a heart BURST with pride! |

MAPLE TREES (RED) |
|
Fiery Red Caps with beaming grins to match! Little Maple Trees become even more independent in the water. We get them breathing as a swimmer should, add a dash more style and finesse to their strokes and…
We even show them what to do if they land in water when they were NOT expecting it! Every little detail your child needs to progress that little further, littler longer and with so much more swimming style! |

ELM TREES (NAVY) |
In the Navy… Yep. your little man/ girl will be showing all the aptitudes a sea-faring swimmer should! Breastroke is the ideal leisure style but we add a little more so your child could well be on the podium at your next school gala! We focus on kicks and turns and even do a few survival skills because you never know when a ‘Navy’ will be heading out to sea? |

WILLOW TREES (BLACK) |
Our Black Capped Swimmers have all the makings of an Elite Swim Squad. We ensure they are even more proficient in their strokes. With a Black Cap in the water, your child could well be the toast of the summer sports scene! His/her swimming style will be strong and powerful, eating up pool lengths to a cheering audience at any aquatic event. |

OAK TREES (GREEN) |
Go for Green! Our Oak Trees are like the giant trees which have stood the test of time. Without hesitation, your child will be plunging into the water and making rapid headway through the water, as proficient in water as on land. If once you never imagined YOUR child could be as a Chad Le Clos or Ryk Neethling, be prepared for a lump in the throat you may never swallow. Our Green Capped kids are as amphibious as a child can get, moving through water with style and grace to make a parent cry with pride! |

Frequently Asked Questions |
|
The most important thing we can tell ANY parent thinking to enrol their child in our swim school is that we are parents ourselves. We look after each child as if he/she was our very own. |
|
We understand how nerve wracking it can be to hand a small child over into another pair of hands to care for. |
What is the right age to start swimming lessons? If you are bathing your child, you have already introduced him to water. Generally, at 6 months a baby is able to hold his head up independently and this is a good time to start fun, easy water activity. We offer Parent and Toddler Classes to promote the easy camaraderie a child should feel in the water with an adult he knows and trusts. What if it is Raining? Our swimming pool is heated and children get wet in the water. If it is light rain we continue classes as scheduled. In the event of extreme weather, thunder and lightning we will notify you of a class cancellation. What if my child is ill? We offer up to 6 makeup lessons for children who have missed lessons due to ill health over the 12 month period. If your child is unable to attend for more serious illness of longer duration please bring a Doctor’s note so we may adjust our records accordingly. Do I pay extra in the months with 5 lesson days? No. With the calendar schedule around school holidays, term times etc. we do not charge additionally for those months were your child has an ‘extra’ lesson. It usually evens out over the course of the year. Are you open during school holidays? Yes. We find children want to swim MORE during the school holidays so we remain open during December/ January School holidays and Easter Holidays. We are open for the full year. |
What do I Need for Lessons? A washable, lined swimming costume or swimmer nappy for very young children. Our goal is to keep any ‘number 2’ inside the swimming costume so elasticised swimmers are important. Normal nappies do not do the job required. Swimming Caps are required (available from Tree of Life Swim School in the colour of the relevant swimming grade) for hygienic reasons. Goggles may be worn by students if they prefer them. Bring a towel, warm, dry clothing and a snack for your child after swimming class. Please do not feed your child up to 30 minutes before his lesson as the activity can cause a gag reflex and vomiting in the water. I can’t swim! How can I teach my child if I am not able to swim? Our Swimming Pool offers ‘shallow water’ to allow an adult to easily stand hip depth in water. We offer Novice Adult Classes for parents who have never found a level of confidence in the water. In our Parent Toddler Classes you are not expected to ‘swim’ but offer a trustworthy beacon of familiarity in the water. Why is it very important to wear a swimming cap? Caps are required as it helps us keep our pool nice and clean and hygienic. We also group our swimmers according to their cap colour indicating the level and improvement of each swimmer.
